The team at Remembering the Past know from experience how valuable family stories can be.

We captured this wonderful picture of the Toon family looking back at photographs of life in Burradon at one of Burradon Forum’s ‘At Home’ events in 2017. This was part of the ‘Bringing Back the Banner’ project which saw the restoration of the 1954 pit banner.

One of our favourite ways of sharing old photographs is to digitise them and then create handling books. You can see one of these in the photograph. Handling books are very tactile; sturdy and easy on the eye with blank spaces to people to add their memories.

If you’re planning to collect memories from a large number of people then try this technique.
