Four of our volunteers attended the North Shields 800 Launch event on 31st January at The Exchange 1856. What a great event it was, with Rachel Sweeney as the perfect host. The highlight of the event was, undoubtedly, a fantastic rendition of a song called ‘Spirit of the North’ by the children of New York Primary School. The Elected Mayor of North Tyneside, Dame Norma Redfern and local MP Sir Alan Campbell (Chair of the NS800 Anniversary Committee) spoke about the project. Many other well known people with roots in North Shields also offered their support via video. The final item was a set by Liam Fender, a really talented local musician.

Remembering the Past’s role in the project is to collect ‘Voices of North Shields’. We will be interviewing a diverse selection of North Shields residents about their life in the town to create an historic record of 2025. If you are interested in volunteering on the project, or have a story to share about your life in North Shields, please get in touch using our Contact Page.
