The photos made it look so easy but it’s really not
I am Daisy, I am 16 and I’m currently studying Computer Science, Biology and Physics and Commerce.
I just thought it was really cool that people who probably didn’t have access to all the opportunities that we do now could still get into STEM careers. The photos made it look so easy but it’s really not and I just think that’s really fascinating.

My favourite was probably the one of the lady who was operating the crane. I’ve never really understood how cranes work, ever. My grandad used to operate one, but I never understood how it worked but from looking at how she was handling it, it looked like she’d been doing it for years, even though she looked quite young.
I’d quite like to go into drug development when I’m older, I’d love to go into specifically the bio-technology side of it. I’ve always been interested in drug development; it’s always been something that I’ve aspired to do since I was little. Over the last couple of years we’ve had talks from people coming into school who do drug development and a month or so ago we had a man called Tom Klenker and he does how chemicals and micro-organisms can be made into drugs that can help battle cancer and I just found that talk so fascinating. I quite like all of the small stuff, and it just fit what I am looking for as I’m older perfectly.
At university currently I’m looking to study biological sciences because you can do a master’s in biotechnology. If I had that extra foot up into the field already and didn’t have to start from scratch when I go into the industry, I would just be able to get that little bit further forward.
I feel like people have always been very like, if you have the chance you should do it because there’s all these fields that you can go into that you wouldn’t have if you were born 20 years before. So, people have never really discouraged me from doing it.
I don’t obviously have experience of being born in a different generation, but I can imagine just being told that if you really, really wanted to do something and just being told that you can’t because you’re a woman, that seems stupid. Try and prove them wrong.
