Tug of War

It was a regular thing to see the men dressed up, often in women's clothes!

We marched all around West Allotment on Good Friday morning before going back to the Club for about 12.30. The village was virtually square, so we went all round it. We were led by a local pipe band which came into the Club and played in the big room for about an hour.

There were lots of games played and the highlight was the annual Tug of War, between the Club team and team from Northumberland Arms. This was played on the playing field at the top of the village and a cup was awarded to the winner.

Another thing I remember was the fancy dress competition (different to the Easter Bonnet competition) and it was a regular thing to see the men dressed up, often in women’s clothes!
