Memories of North Shields Shops

If I wanted dresses I went to Bell Bros. or D Hill Carter, they were both nice shops.

My earliest memory of shops and shopping was working as an errand girl for McConnell’s & McAvoy’s on Preston Rd.  It was a grocery shop.

My mum and my nana had run shops themselves; nana’s was called E Short and we lived above the shop.

When I was first married I did all my shopping at the Hadrian, on the corner of Saville St. and Howdon Rd.  If I wanted dresses I went to Bell Bros. or D Hill Carter, they were both nice shops.  I also bought school stuff there, there was a good selection.
