Jarpin Your Eggs

We would eat the eggs no matter what state they were in.

Jarpin our paste eggs took up most of our time on Easter Monday. This was a game that involved hitting your opponent’s egg with the pointed end of your own egg and the aim was to see whose egg would last the longest before the shell disintegrated, then we would eat the contents. As we were always hungry we would eat the eggs no matter what state they were in, and they could be in some states if we had rolled them repeatedly down some of the local hills – Brickyard Bank, Burn Closes, Beaconsfield Tynemouth to name but a few.
