A Christmas Surprise

There suddenly appeared a young boy pedalling furiously on his new bicycle!

At 2 am one Christmas Morning, a colleague and I were directed to attend an acute heart attack at an address in West Farm Ave, Benton.  We took the patient to the RVI Newcastle, and handed him over for admission to Coronary Care.  We were then requested to return to depot at Wideopen.  As we hit the dual carriageway in Gosforth, there suddenly appeared out of a side street, a young boy pedalling furiously on his new bicycle, that Santa Claus had just now left him.

Everything about him was new….. dressing gown…. slippers…. gloves and scarf and a Santa Claus hat.  This was a child who was so excited he simply couldn’t sleep, and had opened all his presents before taking his new bike out onto the road at 3 am.  We cautiously overtook the young boy, gathered him up and took him safely home.  Every light in the house was on, and his parents were sound asleep in bed.
