Tate, Mate, Misere, Carlin, Palm and Paste Egg Day.
We had names for all the Sundays in Lent, I think it went something like this: Tate, Mate, Misere, Carlin, Palm and Paste Egg Day (Easter Sunday). I don’t know what they all meant but we did eat carlins on Carlin Sunday – they were on the bar at Backworth Club. They were like peas, but with a black spot on them, and you would boil them up and serve them with a meal.
