Remembering the Past was first set up as a project in late 1997 by the North Shields Library Club to collect people’s memories of the 20th century.  They quickly realised the value of this work and set about securing funding and appointing a manager to take this vision forward.  From these small beginnings, Remembering the Past has developed over the years into the independent Charity it is today with an important digital archive of living history and many successful heritage projects completed.

To mark our 25th anniversary we purchased a tree, which was planted in spring this year in the grounds of the Linskill Centre where our office is located.  A commemorative plaque was commissioned to go with the tree and volunteers, trustees and friends met recently to mark this anniversary by unveiling the plaque.

The work of our volunteers over that time has created a valuable resource for future generations and played a part in alleviating the affects of loneliness and isolation in the region.  As we celebrate this anniversary, we look forward to continuing this work for many years to come.  Here’s to the next 25 years.
