With an almighty swipe, I swung my leg and bang! The box did not move and my foot came to a halt in its tracks.
Me and the lads were on the wander one day when there in the middle of the road sat a lovely cardboard box. Now no matter what anyone says, temptation overcomes you and you have to give it a good kick, just for the hell of it. That was it, free for all time, so off we went pushing and shoving each other to make sure you got there first and got the first main kick in.
After the hustle and tussle, for once I was away in front, racing at full speed to get there first. With an almighty swipe, I swung my leg and bang! The box did not move and my foot came to a halt in its tracks. Rolling round in agony on the ground the lads were in kinks of laughter. No sympathy or anything, just laughter galore. The tears were streaming down my face and as one of the lads looked into the box he burst out laughing again as it was half full of old house bricks.
After hobbling off home to be told by a neighbour it will be a few days before the bruising and my hobbling would go and everything would be back to normal. The next time a box came into view you guessed it – no way was I going to take the first swipe. It was left to some other hero. Still, it was fun at the time, everyone had a good laugh at my expense but you learned the hard way that coming first does not always make you a winner.
