It hurt more than getting the cane.

I started school at Earsdon as there was no school at Monkseaton at that time.

I remember one pupil told me to say ‘bugger’ which I did. She then put up her hand and reported me. I was put in the corner and felt so ashamed. It hurt more than getting the cane.
