Miss Laverick, Western Board School (1955)

When it came to our dancing lessons, Miss Laverick was certainly one of the best, She was the John Travolta of her day, Knocking spots of all of the rest

When it came to our dancing lessons
Miss Laverick was certainly one of the best
She was the John Travolta of her day
Knocking spots of all of the rest

As soon as she came into the room
No one would dare say a word
For no matter how quiet we spoke
It was quarantine if our conversation was heard

Today she will pick out a volunteer
Which just happened to be poor old me
Once she has you on that dance floor
You are so terrified you will just want to pee

Today’s tune is one that you march too
The military two-step is what has been said
For now, is the time for to start praying
Because if she falls you will end up dead

We kids think she must weigh a ton at least
But on the dance floor, she sure could nip
All of us were swung around like a rag doll
As being wee only came up to her hip

Now once that piano has stopped playing
Your reaction was to just turn and smile
For the relief that it was all over
Now another volunteer would do the next mile

Dancing was something Miss L loved
She was just like a kid down to earth
For no matter how much she would scare you
Deep down she was a cuddly toy with a large girth

To think of Miss Laverick makes you smile
For she was a fun-loving teacher of those days
But this is just another bit of school history
That is lost to the memory of them good old ways
