Fishing 1920s

My mother used to let me keep the tiddlers in an old bowl in the back garden.

I used to love fishing.  I fished in any old pond.  We made the fishing rods from pieces of cane and had string tied to the end.  We’d attach a bit of wire to the string, and a worm to the bit of wire.  I sat hours on the bank, with my bottle of water and jam and bread sandwiches.

We also caught tiddlers.  My mother used to let me keep them in an old bowl in the back garden.  The old days all seemed sunny to me – I didn’t notice the rain in those days.

I used to spend hours in the library on Howard Street.  The children’s library was downstairs.  I used to spend hours and hours reading there.  We were safe and warm.  My mother went to work you see.  I still read a lot if I can – keeps the brain active!
