Chocolate Eggs?
One thing very different to Easter these days was the amount of chocolate that was around. People seem to think that Easter Eggs have always been made out of chocolate and that these were the types of eggs that people exchanged as presents. Not so. We rarely even saw a chocolate egg, never mind being given one. I can remember seeing a chocolate egg in the window of the Post Office in Backworth before WW2. People used to come specially to look at it, it was such an unusual thing. Then, for some reason, someone gave me a chocolate egg and I was so thrilled with it that I kept it for a long time without eating it, just looking at it. It was such a delicacy.
