Carol Singing

It was the most lovely sound.

At Christmas the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Percy Main sent Carol Singers around the streets, stopping every so often under the street lamps.  It was the loveliest sound and people would come out and give them hot tea or something stronger and mince pies etc.  They really brought a feeling of goodwill and belonging to all the Village.

My mother used to cry every time she heard ‘Oh Come All Ye Faithful’.  My brothers and I did not know why at the time but the carol singers were singing it outside our house that Christmas Eve, when her first son Gordon died aged 5.
