Broken Biscuits 1960

First we would just look at them, then as your mouth began to water like mad, pop a bit in. It was sheer heaven!

In these good old times you could buy broken biscuits at quite a few shops.   Me and the sister would come along to a shop called Duncan’s which was just on the corner of Camden Street and Saville Street.   You had the biscuits in bags so it was pot luck what you got in them.  But not to worry for as soon as we got home the bag was split open and you went hunting for chocolate ones.   Now and again we had two or three bits and it is safe to say all your birthdays had come at once and you were in fairytale land.  First we would just look at them, then as your mouth began to water like mad, pop a bit in.   You never chewed, just let it melt away and it was fantastic.   You could not describe what it was like for us, it was sheer Heaven and to be honest, money, no matter how much, could not pay for those simple moments of pure Heaven.

Today, in 2008, the old Duncan’s shop is part of The Garrick’s Head Pub.
